Brazil has many hidden treasures to discover, occupying half of South America’s land mass. Let’s learn a little bit more about this paradise.
Brazil is a massive country that covers about 5.60 million square miles of land. There are different climates within the different regions, although 60 percent of the country lies in the tropics—generally, temperatures within the country average at about 77°F.
Brazilian cuisine gets a lot of influence from the Portuguese, Japanese, and European cultures. The meals are prepared with a lot of love which is why you must taste traditional Brazilian dishes on your next vacation.
Brazilians enjoy eating Feijoada on Fridays and Saturdays, a meal made of black beans, pork, beef, onions, and garlic. Accompany this food with rice, steamed collard greens, or toasted cassava flour (farofa).
Another must-eat food in Brazil , to be more specific, in Bahía, is the Acarajé, a dumpling made from black-eyed peas, stuffed with shrimp, and fried in palm oil.
Another hearty Brazilian meal you should try (which is a Bahia specialty) is the Moqueca. This meal consists of fish, coconut oil, milk, onions, tomatoes, coriander, and assorted vegetables that are slow-cooked together. When touring Brazil, you’ll find different variations of this meal, but they are all delicious.
Make sure to delight your taste buds with the Vatapá, an everyday meal in the Bahia region. It’s a thick stew made of peanuts, coconut milk, shrimp, palm oil, and herbs. The dish goes well with rice or Acarajé.
Want a traditional meal from the region of Manaus? Taste 6 delicious types of fish caught directly from the Amazon river in our buffets.
Discover these top tourist destinations in Brazil. Whether you want to explore the beaches, sail in the Amazon River, or hike in the Amazon forest, there is a lot to see and do.
Sea turtle Watching in Praia do Forte
Go sea turtle watching at Proyecto Tamar in the Praia do Forte fishing village. This project started in the 1980s and has successfully protected endangered sea turtle species. Iberostar has an alliance with the Tamar Project since 2005 to protect sea turtles together. This is why the beach where our hotels are located is protected. Moreover, we always collect umbrellas and chairs daily so that turtles can come to lay their eggs and the light in our hotels is dim so that turtles do not get confused and confuse the artificial lights with the moonlight.
Walk around the Pelourinho streets in Salvador
Travel back through the history of Brazil on a walk through the Pelourinho Streets. You may have seen the streets getting hyped on Instagram as one of the most beautiful. And yes, you’ll get blown away by the many bars, restaurants, and of course, the incredible capoeira performances at the main square.
Amazon Rainforest
Visit the river tributaries or where they merge at the Encontro das Aguas. Enter into the heart of the forest using a boat and find lakes hidden between the lush jungles. While here, visit the wild jungle in Manaus, only 10 kilometers away from the rainforest, and watch wildlife roaming around.
Go up the Lacerda Elevator and visit the Modelo market
The Lacerda elevator connects Cidade Baixa and the upper part of the city, known as Cidade Alta. Make a stop at the Modelo market where you’ll find all types of arts and crafts to carry home as souvenirs.
Carnival in Salvador
Bahians from all over celebrate this festival in style and the celebrations take place during carnival week. If you're here during that time, you'll witness everyone behind the blocks. The parades play music on loudspeakers mounted on small trucks called "Trio Elétricos" all across the streets of Bahia?
MUSA Amazon museum
This museum packs about 250 acres of lush jungle. Within the museum you’ll see beautiful orchids, birds chirping happily, a lake, laboratories experimenting with snakes, and hiking trails. If you want an aerial view of the MUSA Amazon museum, climb up the 135-foot observation tower.
As a huge country occupying half of the South American continent, Brazil is a mixture of cultures and traditions varying from region to region. So, what traditions should you know of before taking a vacation here?
Firstly, you should be ready to join the locals for a churrasco. Forget about the usual barbeque, the Brazilian Churrasco is the real deal. Friends gather to eat smoked but tender meat. One person moves around, passing the meat to everyone as they drink their caipirinhas or cold beer. If a local likes you and asks you to join their Churrasco, ensure to eat to your fill.
Another popular and religious tradition is offering to Yemanja. She is the queen of waters and life. She is also the protector of women and the mother of all Orixás. His dance imitates the movements of the sea waves, moving his hands as if he were washing the world. Even if his day is celebrated on February 2nd, many people have the custom of making offerings to Iemanjá on New Year's Eve.
These tributes at the turn of the year always take place on the beaches, where people place flowers, white coconuts and perfumes by the sea.
Brazilians love soccer, and their love is only comparable to religion. People here are emotional about football from the young to the old. In fact, during premier leagues and World Cups, employers put television screens at the workplace for employees to enjoy. But this is no surprise because the country produces some of the best soccer players in the world.
Set foot in a land of the most amazing contrasts: between the largest rainforest in the World and one of the most magical coasts in the southern hemisphere. Being one of the largest countries in the world in size, Brazil is an eclectic mixture of cultures, geography, and terrains.
